There’s lots of debug spew…can you turn it off? But I love AIM7. Beta 4 is nice…things have been pretty stable for me since B3, its looking really nice now.

If you or anyone sees a crash in AIM and gets a crash dialog, I encourage you to enter your email address in the crash dialog so that it can easily be found in AOL’s internal crash system. Just drop me a note and I can take a look.

I tried downloading 6.9 but it keeps crashing on me after about 5 minutes. I’m using Windows Vista. Anyone else have this problem?
I ended up downloading the new beta version, which doesn’t crash, but I’d still prefer the normal version.

Hi Rob,

I’m using Windows Vista and I just tried to download and install the new 6.9 version of AIM, but the program won’t start! It looks like it installed correctly, but whenever I try to start the program, nothing happens. I’ve tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and restarting but nothing seems to fix it. It also seems like a not uncommon problem for other vista users.

I downloaded 6.9…. but I can’t seem to install it to any other drives other than my C drive. it doesnt even give me the option to where I want it installed to.

I’m still kind of confused why AIM won’t automatically resize/crop a photo for use as a buddy icon. Are there any intentions to include this in a future build?

How about allowing larger icons/photos too?

I got an answer on the category filter. This returns items matching the “origFeedCategory” tag rather than the “category” tag as I had assumed.

Some known categories are “AIMInternalFeed” for status and away messages and “status” for items from twitter.

I have updated the tool to reflect this.

I have the same problem. I added all my buddies when I made a new screen name and used aim for mac. I signed off and when I signed back on, all my buddies were gone. What happened?

Lately I heard about OpenAIM and got interested into it,I have gone through all AIM Module Plugin Samples here > http://dev.aol.com/aim/code ! However,I was wondering if I can get few sourcecodes of fully functional plugins as such,it will help me bigtime learning the same ,as in its implementation. Wondering if I can find sourcecode of plugins from AIM6’s folder in Program files somewhere after its installed ? kind of like we can access plugin’s source code for Firefox .. Thanks for help in advance,will appreciate if you email me its reply apart from posting the same here.Thank you.

Hello,
I have been using aim for several years now, And the only feature i see that aim is lacking is the ability to have custom smilies, This would top the cake.

I have searched high and low for a plugin or way to edit the smilies out but the only thing i found was for version 5 and i could not find the files it was talking about. Anyway i know tons of people who would love to have their own custom smilie on aim. This would be a feature i would look into adding if i had my own instant messenger app.

I third (fourth? fifth?) the motion to disable smileys. I wish to find a place to re-download the last version of AIM 5, but it has been removed from the site. I’m fine with the upgrade, but I miss being able to see instead of some random smiley.

Honestly, AIM 6.8 has not impressed me in the least. Not only did the “mandatory update!” window appearing over and over and over again make me dislike the system before I even installed it, the complete inability to remove the Plugin Manager bar from the bottom of the buddy list is making me look for a different messenger client.

How do you create a program that alters what you type and transforms it into idiotic cartoon faces, but refuses to provide you with the means to turn off this feature and display what it is you actually type? I could rant at AOL for what they are, but at the end of the day I’m the fool that installed this program in the first place. One of these two will be soon remedied.

Personally I think AIM should seek an entirely new design. I still stick with 5.5 b/c I think AIM 6 has become way to bogged down. I hate to reference MS, but take look at the next update of Windows live messenger. Clean and under control without the garbage all over the place.

i’m using aim 6.9 beta right now and my allowed other people to see that i am idle and also it is enabled on the settings option. yet it still doesn’t go idle. any suggestions what it may be?

tineye.com found 20 copies of it on the web, including on istockphoto.com. Seems to be pretty popular on health sites. According to iStockphoto it’s been downloaded more than 5000 times.

If tineye can get closer to 100% coverage of the net it’ll be great for answering “where’d this come from” kind of questions.
