Overview

The AIM® URL Generator tools are designed to help make it easy to create links that work with the latest AIM client. The AIM client supports special links that can be used to invoke functions in the client like add a screen name to the Buddy List®, start an IM or chat room conversation, set your status message and more.

How To Use

Select one of the AIM URL Generators below. Once you have entered all the parameters for the link that you want, just press the HTML or URL buttons at the bottom of the page and CTRL+C to copy it to your clipboard.

The HTML format is intended to be used in places where you want to paste the link as markup while the URL button can be used to generate just the link part.

Clicking on the link will invoke the command in your AIM client.

Once you have copied the URL formatted link to the clipboard, you can invoke it from the run command window (WIN+R) and paste it in as the link to be opened. You can also create a shortcut on your desktop to invoke the link from there. This is great for invoking often used commands in AIM like chat rooms or status messages.

Go IM

This link starts an IM conversation to a particular screen name. It also lets you set the initial message that you can edit before sending.

Go Chat

This link opens a chat room. Just create the link with a chat room name of your choice and past the link in a shortcut. This lets you easily enter the chat room by simply double-clicking on the shortcut.

Add Buddy

This link can be used to add one or more buddies to the Buddy List. Add one of these links to your favorite social site to make it easier for your friends to add you to their AIM Buddy List®.

Set Status

This link is an easy way to set your status to an often used message like "on the phone", "be right back", "in a meeting", "at the gym", "watching a movie", "call my cell", etc. Make a folder on your desktop and keep a list of status message shortcuts to your often set messages.

Buddy Updates Feed

This link is different than the others; rather than invoking some feature in the client, this link retrieves information about a specific screen name directly from AIMs hosts on the Internet. Your Buddy Updates feed contains things like status messages, plugin installations, location updates, blog posts, picture uploads, videos, social bookmarks, and more. See Buddy Updates Setup for more information. Add any number of RSS formatted links to your favorite RSS reader to keep tabs on each of your buddies. Note: Make sure you check "Include the full HTML content for published items" and select the RSS format for this URL when createing it for an RSS reader.
