AIM 6.0 Q&A Volume IV

Q squaredThis volume covers some of the more common settings related questions derived from the search data to my blog. Be sure to read the comments on these posts, since they may contain more answers to some of your questions.

Q: How do I find the settings for something?
A: Open the Settings window, Press F7 from the Buddy List. You should see a search edit box at the top right of this window. Type in the name of option you are looking for in there. This will filter the Settings window to show only tabs that contain the word you are looking for. In some cases, the word will be highlighted where it is found as you click on the visible tabs. If you don’t see an option try a different name for it. Click on the red circle with a white dash in it to clear your search filter.

Q: How do I hide my typing?
A: In the Settings window, click on the Privacy tab, then uncheck the “I am typing a response” option. This option could have been found by searching for “typing”.

Q: Is there tabbed or grouped IM support in AIM 6.0?
A: YES. Go to the “General IM” tab in the Settings window and check the option “Use Grouped IMs to display my IMs”. Unchecking this option will open a new window for each IM.

Q: How do I enable or disable a plugin?
A: After installing a plugin, you can enable or disable it by going to the Plugins tab of the Settings window. Check the ones you want to enable. You should always exit AIM before you install or uninstall a plugin. Plugins will only appear in the list when they are properly installed and authenticated by AOL. If you don’t see the plugin in the list, try restarting AIM. If that fails, try re-installing the latest version of the plugin again. Note: AOL can disable a plugin at any time. Contact the plugin’s developer if you have any problems loading a plugin.

How to install plugins on AIM 6.0?

  2. Gus Says:

Stefan, Each plugin will typically come with its own installer. Simply exit AIM, run the installer, follow the instructions in it, and then launch AIM again. You should see the new plugin in the “plugins” tab of your settings window after you signon.

Hey folks, I probably should have done this a while ago, but I am now closing the comment on this post. Look for a more recent post to ask your questions in. Thanks.
