AIM 6.0 Ready For Everyone
AOL officially shipped AIM 6.0 today. From the aim.com website:
This now available for download.
I admit I am biased, but I think this is the best AIM client in production. There is always room for improvement, but the progress and direction so far is very positive and the client looks and feels so cool.
I look forward to getting feedback on what you like and don’t like about this client.
I wore an orange shirt today just for this occasion ;).

So what happened to the AIM Triton software? Is it the end??? I really liked that version, kinda skeptical about trying this new version of AIM.

The image you pasted in looks new across all platforms, too.
Its kind of amusing to see
“Full-featured communications software integration with AIM Pages & Phoneline.”
for the 1.5 version for Linux, which I’m pretty sure doesn’t actually have phoneline features.
Is the orange shirt in honor of the AIM logo or the splashes of orange in the new UI?

Mikee, I understand. Yes, Triton is now AIM 6.0. AIM 6.0 started with the best of AIM Triton and the best UI ideas of AIM 5.9. There are some really nice features in AIM 6.0 that make it so much better than AIM Triton. Away messages are much easier to handle, IM Catcher is now combined in the grouped IM window, send offline IMs, I could go on and on.
AIM 6.0 installs in a new location that is different from AIM Triton, in theory, you could try it out and if you don’t like AIM 6.0 you can uninstall AIM 6.0 and go back to AIM Triton. (I have not tried the going back part, but the only slight problem I think might just be the shortcut to launch AIM Triton. Save a copy of that before you install AIM 6.0 or use my IM Control Panel to re-create a shortcut to AIM Triton.)
In theory, you can run both AIM Triton and AIM 6.0 at the same time.
I hope you give AIM 6.0 a shot. Thanks.

Matthew, The image is from the AIM website. Agreed, it looks confusing. The top part is about “AIM 6.0 for Windows”. The row with the “Mac | Win 98 | Linux | All” is not about “AIM 6.0 for Windows”, but versions that are available for those platforms; which are most likely not as advanced as AIM 6.0 for Windows.
Yes, I’m all about the UI, so I wore orange in honor of the splashes of orange in the new UI :).

Gus, I actually meant that I viewed the site while running Ubuntu, so I saw the bit about Phoneline next to the image of the fairly old official Linux client

I don’t understand why the new AIM (version 6.0) doesn’t show the message anymore for this code:
aim:goim?screenname=SCREENNAME&message=WHATS+UP
Only the window appears with the screen name, but no message.
Has things changed? Do you know why? I’d appreciate any input.
