Where Did February Go?

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Lots of things have happened this month. Been a bit busy with work, a few birthdays, some anniversaries, a-week-away-from-work-vacation (meaning not-at-work-and-have-too-much-to-do-at-home-to-take-a-real-vacation), and other things.

First thing I would like to do is give my blog a name. I have seen some recent new blogs by fellow AOLers (See: here, here, and here). There seems to be a pattern (aside from the fact that they all work together)—they all have catchy titles. As I looked around me for some ideas, I suddenly realized: How in the world did I end up on the pure-GUI side of things? I mean, I also have a BSEE. I use to write stuff for μCOSes, block file systems, and designed some circuit boards. I even wrote a simple WIN32-like GUI using a graphics card and mouse drivers for an industrial PC. I’ll stop there. I don’t want to sound like an old-timer (read: Experienced.) Now, as they say around here, I’m venturing away from the metal. In my mind it’s not quite cute and funny. I still get excited when I think I have to do something in a new thread or make a single WIN32 call these days. Anyway the new title is a work in progress. Stay tuned. I’ll make good use of my Creative Whack Pack in the process.

In other news, I will be attending the O’Reilly Emerging Technology Conference (ETech) out in San Diego, California next week. Just part of that “venturing beyond the metal” (I have not ruled this out as my blog title yet) theme I am on. I will make some posts on this conference then. And just when I thought I was going alone, I just read that Greg is going to join me–Fantastic. Blogs are great!

Since this is a blog by a software developer; I’m planning to post some. I have an IM tool in the works and will post it soon; sort of a control panel. I also have an idea for an AIM Triton plugin but it will do some of the things JAMS already does in a different (read: customizable) way.
