AIM Triton Beta version 1.2.5.1 is out and I just wanted to point out a great thing AOL is doing these days and that is to give credit to those who have worked so hard on the software that is enjoyed by millions of users around the world. The AIM About window shows the names of all the teams and most of the people involved in developing this product.
This is me in the credits:

Would you like to see your name in the credits?
AIM Triton makes it very easy to fool your friends and family into thinking you did it all. And you can have fun doing it too. You will have to do some searching. (I’m not going to give you all the answers.) You just need to find how AIM gets its list of credits. (Yes, I just gave you the keyword to look for.) Take a look at that file and see if you can figure out how to put your name into it. One last clue: You will have to upload your credits file to a website or do some JavaScript programming to work around it.
With a little work you can make your about box look like this:

Enjoy. Oh, and tell me what you think of this beta version.
Gus….not too shabby…Keep it up
Good to see developers showing up

Gus, by asking people to ‘find’ where AIM gets the credits from and modify them you’re asking people to effectively reverse enginner and modify the software, both of which are prohibited by the AIM EULA and I’m sure would be frowned upon by your employer. You should be a little more careful about what you post here.
I would be very happy to learn how to use a flash buddy icon instead of a 10kb limited jpg/gif. Any info is appreciated. Thank you!!!
Jesse, you can’t use a flash buddy icon. The reason being that the AIM server, not the AIM program limites the buddy icon to 10 kb.
Also, Timmy, modifying a string in a file that’s openly avaliable (I would almost call it open source) is not what most people would consider reverse engineering…
Actually Timmy, if you haven’t figured it out yet, the reason we haven’t obfuscated the code, markup, and theme resources for Triton is because we WANT people to play with extending it. It’s been sanctioned by all involved closely with the project. Enjoy!
This thread reminds me of the movie Wargames…
Malvin: I can’t believe it, Jim. That girl’s standing over there listening and you’re telling him about our back doors?
Jim Sting: [yelling] Mister Potato Head! Mister Potato Head! Back doors are not secrets!
Malvin: Yeah, but Jim, you’re giving away all our best tricks!
Jim Sting: They’re not tricks.
[...] My understanding is that even altering the boxley files (.box) is changing a proprietary “file format” hence violating the EULA/TOS for those components. This was brought up on Gus Verdun’s blog when he changed the credits and asked others if they could figure it out Timmy stated that basically you’re violating the EULA and being an employee, probably shouldn’t recommend it. I loved the argument that Corey Lucier gave… [...]
Hey, I loved coming in!!!!!! Keep it up
[...] My plan for this year is to post twice as much useful information as last year. I will also be working on two more plug-ins that should be out by mid-year (Unfortunately, my day job keeps me from doing it full-time.) As an update to my first post… The AIM 6.0 about window still has me in the credits: [...]
